Step 1.2: Read your paper aloud and role play the audience

Reading the paper out loud is a technique I have been familiar with since high school, where a teacher once told me to use this technique to eliminate fluency errors. What surprised me is that I have never heard or thought of the "role playe the audience" technique, which sounds useful since the audience is the target your aiming at.

Eventhough I already read the paragraphs out loud during the process of writing, I was still able to locate one more awkward sentence in the first paragraph due to this technique.
"It was and still is seen as normal that fair-trade products are sold at a higher retail price as non fair-trade products, and this higher retail price is why fair-trade companies, such as Day Chocolate, do not reach sales rates that equal the sales rates of normal companies who obtain their resources at questionable prices."
Role playing the audience did not result in me discovering more errors.

Reflection:
Due to the fact that I had never heard of the "role playe the audience" technique, I found it hard to use and I am still not sure if I did it correctly. But not only was this method hard to use because it was new to me, it was also difficult to predict an audience's reaction to the paragraphs.
